I had no idea just how excited and obsessed I’d be with the World Pop Cup, but every morning I’ve found myself obsessively checking the PWC website and hitting refresh for new comments, anxious for a new match to hear what formations each team around the world plays.
I’m managing the Australian team this year and we just completed our first match this morning. It was a hard-fought match against the Germans, but it ended in a 1-1 draw. Like everyone, I was hoping for a win, but managing a team that was knocked out in the group stage in 2006 and being a rookie to the game, I’m pleased overall with the result. My team, led by disco trio Sneaky Sound System, played a high-energy game for 90 minutes. It wasn’t enough for a win, but we’ll learn from the experience (no “late-90s french house”) and try to do better against Ghana next month.
