This song is Sneaky Sound System’s “Pictures” and it’s my first entry in the Pop World Cup for Australia.

I’m more than a little nervous because the competition is fierce (even if I only need to choose a better song than the manager of the German team) and I’ve been critical of the selections from the English and American teams (Joe Cocker vs. Yeasayer seems to be quite the letdown considering how deep both squads are).

This song I chose was, so far, my favorite Australian pop song by an artist whose last name isn’t “Minogue”. Sneaky Sound System is a four-piece dance-pop band who have made two rather popular albums: their self titled debut and, appropriately enough, 2. SSS have become one of the most well-known acts down under, selling several thousand copies of both of their albums.

This song, as rumor (or press release) has it, was a favorite of the Scissor Sisters, who are obviously a big influence on SSS.

SSS got their start first hosting a successful dance music night on Sundays called “Sneaky Sundays” and members of the band found themselves in Sidney tabloids before even putting out their debut album.

This song was on that eventual album and I think it’s the best song the band has produced. It’s catchy, has a steady beat and is easy to both dance to and sing along with. Whether it is better than whatever Germany throws my way is another manner, but we’ll see how the PWC voters react.
